Point and Click Solutions Chooses Exostar’s ProviderPass to Empower Physicians with EPCS Capability
Leading Provider for College Health Extends its Electronic Health Records Software Suite in Compliance with DEA Ruling on Controlled Substance ePrescribing
HERNDON, VA, and BURLINGTON, MA, April 14, 2015 – Exostar, an innovative information technology company offering cloud-based solutions that enable secure, cost-effective business-to-business collaboration, today announced it has deployed its ProviderPass identity proofing and second-factor credential authentication offering on behalf of Point and Click Solutions. Point and Click Solutions is leveraging the Software-as-a-Service ProviderPass to enhance its leading medical information system software with electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) functionality. As a result, more than 8000 providers at nearly 200 college sites nationwide can more efficiently and securely deliver the best possible care to their patients. These patients primarily fall into the young adults aged 18-25 demographic where prescription drug abuse is highest.
Point and Click Solutions has a complete suite of highly-intuitive, user-friendly applications specifically designed for college health that is consistently one of the top-ranked systems by physicians participating in a survey by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The suite includes an electronic health records (EHR) component created and fine-tuned over the past 15 years to meet the unique needs of college healthcare providers and patients, such as e-prescribing with direct interfaces to college health pharmacy systems. In order to extend this capability to offer EPCS, Point and Click Solutions had to ensure its EHR software complied with strict regulations defined by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
“We are a world-class organization with a mission of delivering the best possible technology, products, and services to our customers in college health,” said David Tan, President and CEO at Point and Click Solutions. “By selecting Exostar’s ProviderPass, we have found a partner who shares our mission and allows us to deliver a secure, compliant EPCS solution with the same compelling user experience our customers have come to know and trust.”
With ProviderPass, Point and Click Solutions users purchase a one-time password (OTP) hardware token credential from Exostar. Users complete a remote identity proofing process to confirm their identities, after which Exostar sends them an activated OTP credential. When users wish to prescribe a controlled substance, they present their OTP credential, which is authenticated by ProviderPass prior to allowing access to the EPCS function. Because Exostar has been certified as a full-service Credential Service Provider by the SAFE-BioPharma Association, its OTP credentials can be trusted by health IT vendors and their customers to meet the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s 800-63 Level 3 standard called for by the DEA for EPCS.
“Point and Click Solutions is dedicated to helping college healthcare sites run an efficient practice and provide the highest quality of care,” said Daniel Pfeifle, Exostar’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our turnkey ProviderPass service offering has allowed Point and Click Solutions to quickly and seamlessly extend their EHR software with the critical, fully-compliant EPCS functionality its customers need on the frontlines of healthcare at large universities and small colleges across the country.”
