Exostar-Powered Identity & Access Management Platform Named North America Health Care Project of the Year

Multi-Enterprise Collaboration Solution Cited by Information Security Executive for 2013 IT Security Award

HERNDON, VA, December 5, 2013 – Exostar, whose cloud-based solutions enable secure, cost-effective business-to-business collaboration, today announced its identity and access management (IAM) solutions, used by Merck to control access to the pharmaceutical leader’s EngageZone multi-enterprise collaboration platform, were part of a winning nomination for the 2013 Information Security Executive (ISE) North America awards. EngageZone was named Project of the Year in the Health Care category at the recent ISE North America Leadership Summit and Awards Gala. ISE previously recognized the EngageZone initiative at its Northeast Project Awards ceremony in October.

EngageZone is allowing Merck to redefine business-to-business engagements in the Life Sciences industry. With EngageZone, teams from Merck and its external partners can collaborate securely and efficiently. Individuals benefit from single sign-on to the technology services to which they have been granted access. EngageZone users leverage a highly-scalable environment that protects sensitive data and intellectual property from compromise. The solution also minimizes the time to establish productive collaborative engagements, administrative overhead, and the need for costly, redundant technology infrastructure. By enhancing and streamlining the research and development process, EngageZone will help improve consumers’ lives by reducing time-to-market for new drugs and therapies.

EngageZone is integrated with Exostar’s Life Sciences Identity Hub, a connect-once community cloud of systems and applications that eliminates the need for direct point-to-point interactions between parties. Exostar’s Secure Access Manager (SAM) validates individuals’ identities through strong authentication and controls access to the components connected to the Life Sciences Identity Hub based on permissions assigned by systems, applications, and information owners.

“EngageZone is most deserving of the ISE award because of the strategic vision for bringing secure, seamless business-to-business collaboration to the Life Sciences industry,” said Vijay Takanti, Exostar’s Vice President of Security and Collaboration Solutions. “The number of EngageZone users, and by extension the Exostar Life Sciences Identity Hub, is growing rapidly. Not only are partners joining the community, but other large pharmaceutical firms are following Merck’s lead and connecting to our Identity Hub.”

For over a decade, the ISE awards and associated program series have empowered information security executives and their project teams to connect, collaborate, and celebrate. The North America awards recognize organizations throughout the United States and Canada that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in risk management, data asset protection, regulatory compliance, privacy, and network security.
