Exostar to Speak at Controlled Unclassified Information Security Requirements Workshop

SVP Vijay Takanti to Participate on Panel Focused on Industry Best Practices for Implementation and Compliance

Herndon, VA, October 15, 2018Exostar, the leader in trusted, secure business collaboration in aerospace and defense, life sciences, and healthcare, today announced it will share insights for implementation and compliance with key Government cybersecurity requirements at the upcoming Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Security Requirements Workshop.  The event, hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Department of Defense (DoD), and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), takes place on Thursday, October 18th, at NIST.

Vijay Takanti, Exostar’s Senior Vice President of Innovation & Informatics, will serve on a panel that will provide the commercial market’s perspective on best practices for incorporating CUI requirements into operating environments and delivered solutions, along with the lessons learned in doing so.  Topics the panel will cover include:

  • How can companies demonstrate and sustain security in a dynamic threat environment?
  • How do organizations protect CUI throughout the supply chain, particularly with small business partners?
  • What is “adequate security,” and is compliance enough?
  • How can the Government and industry leverage NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-171 and SP 800-171A?
  • What’s working, what’s not, and what are the strategies for success?
  • What lies ahead?

“Businesses subject to CUI security requirements must make a fundamental choice.  Do they take a tactical approach where compliance is the goal, or a strategic approach where compliance is a starting point for a holistic cybersecurity initiative,” Takanti said.  “Either way, the challenge is massive, and the implications long-lasting.  It’s vital for Government and industry to work together to exchange best practices and lessons learned to cost-effectively and nimbly mitigate risk and comprehensively protect information, applications, and systems against increasingly sophisticated threats.”
